The REAL Honeymoon - Manali - White Water Rafting, The Parvati Valley and Naggar Castle

I’d never been White Water rafting before and I loved it!

We rafted down 16 km of the Beas river over rapids up to level 3. We were joined by 3 English Uni boys.

The water was freezing cold and every time we hit a big wave/rapid I was told to go ‘High Side’ which means duck down at the very front of the boat, with your head pointing downstream. I soon learnt that our instructor was doing it so I’d get completely soaked and for no real safety-related reason.

We got stuck at one point in a dip, the water filled the boat and the hung-over uni guys really started to panic. They also panicked when two of them nearly got thrown out of the boat. Very funny.

It was such good fun, definitely want to do it again.

On the way back from the rafting we asked Dullu, the driver to take us to the castle, meaning Naggar Castle.

After a very long drive (about 2 hours) Dullu announced that we had arrived. He had misheard us and taken us to Kasol in the Parvati Valley.

It turned out to be a lucky mistake as we carried on up the valley to Manikaran, where there are natural hot springs and a Gurdwara (Sikh Temple)

The water is hot enough to cook rice. If you fancy sulphur-flavoured rice.

The Parvati valley is very narrow, there are loads of these wire and basket crossings all the way up the valley to transport goods across to the other side.

The next day Dullu took us to the right castle – Naggar castle

This isn’t it (!) just a small temple within the castle.

Also in Naggar is The Nikolas Roerich Museum. (Painter and Philospher)

The family house has been preserved with all the original furniture and furnishings. Really lovely.
